Mumbai style vada-pav in Dubai

Last week, Aditi & I had a killer craving for Mumbai-style vada pav. There was just one key ingredient that bothered us for a while – the typical Maharashtrian kanda-lasun masala. Lucky enough, Al Adil Trading was the only super-market in and around Discovery Gardens to stock this. The result was nothing short of mouth-watering. But we still miss Mumbai and all our people ūüėź

Endless chaat at Patiala House, Karama

Last week, we decided to try chaat at Patiala Chaat, and like so many others, we couldn’t have made a better decision. It took a moment for us to find, since it is near Karama Post Office, not exactly opposite. Parking could be a bit of a challenge, but the food will make up for it.

The Pani Puri, Dahi Puri & Sev Puri were to die for. The teekha paani seemed to have a bit of color, but it felt very fresh. The Raj Kachori wasn’t the freshest, and was the only disappointment. I don’t know if Jal Jeera has a sweet/salty option (like Fresh Lime) but theirs was sweet like Shikanji. Everything else was top of the world and I thoroughly recommend this place. Can’t wait to visit again and try their Punjabi Non-Veg mains.

Recipe: Chicken or Paneer Tacos

Ingredients:

  • Taco shells
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Chopped capsicum, olives, onions
  • Baked beans
  • Salsa dip
  • Chicken/Paneer
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Salt, pepper, oregano

Preparation:

  • Warm taco shells for about 30 sec (for 3 shells)
  • Lay lettuce at the bottom, and layer it with baked beans and salsa
    • To save time, I premix baked beans, salsa, Tabasco (if you like it spicy)
  • Add chopped veggies, and chicken/paneer
  • Sprinkle some salt, pepper and oregano
  • Grate cheese on the top, and microwave another 30 sec for the cheese to melt

Crackerjack Popcorn Fail

A year I tried this recipe for¬†Homemade Cracker Jack and it turned out great! Crunchy peanuts glued to caramel pop-corn making for a nice sweet-and-salty¬†snack. Just a few days back, I bumped into a question on Quora that asked ‘When do you realise that you are good at something?‘ to which I said:¬†When repeating ‘it’ no longer worries you.¬†Or when¬†You dont need revision or preparation, and when others seek your opinion or value you experience.

In an attempt to get good at Crackerjack (and to satisfy my craving on a slow Sunday evening) I went ahead and tried it again. Only to realize that I still need to improve. The peanuts just didn’t glue with the pop-corn because my caramel sauce should’ve had more butter & water. But I’m glad that I attempted to perfect it, traced the cause of my failure and that I’m still eager to perfect it.
