I realized that I had to reduce my intake of carbs, protein &amp; fat. Long flights serving 3 meals seemed like a low-hanging fruit. Without wasting time, I started experimenting with the various dietary meal options that most airlines offer &#8211; provided the request is placed 24 hours before the flight.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At first I switched to a fat free meal, which avoided gluten in the preparation and served fruits in lieu of an unhealthy dessert option. Together with this, I consciously reduced cola &amp; soda intake and switched to juices or just plain water &#8211; lots of it. I refrained from all snacks, peanuts especially.\u00a0But the meal still served a chunk<!--more--> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prasadgupte.com\/blog\/tag\/chicken\/\" target=\"_blank\">chicken<\/a> which wasn&#8217;t helping all that much.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 724px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/-8e-uDmAffaI\/VRL7A6j9BsI\/AAAAAAAAvgk\/y3CPQ8zbz3I\/w724-h543-no\/IMG_20150127_010710.jpg\" alt=\"Fat-free meal\" width=\"724\" height=\"543\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fat-free meal<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I then went to the other extreme of a raw veg meal (as seen in the cover image), which served a bigger portion of salad as the main dish. Fresh cut capsicum in\u00a0all colors, tomatoes and broccoli. Tasteless, yet rich in fibre, and nil on fat &amp; sugar. On a long flight, I would opt this for one leg, and a low-fat meal on the other. Instead of eggs &amp; potatoes for breakfast, it would\u00a0serve fibre-rich sultana whole-grain flakes with yogurt.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 724px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/7FM0yyBBtz4JM8pSRMU32j5ux_i1FIClzPtlUIcKQAye=w724-h543-no\" alt=\"Low-fat meal\" width=\"724\" height=\"543\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Low-fat meal<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In conclusion, I think it helps one bit at a time. It makes you diet conscious &#8211; provided you don&#8217;t get paranoid. If you are <a title=\"My FlightDiary: 100 flights via Mumbai\" href=\"http:\/\/www.prasadgupte.com\/blog\/flight-diary-100-via-mumbai-airport\/\" target=\"_blank\">traveling a lot<\/a> or have dietary restrictions, you must\u00a0visit the airline website to check options. You can set the meal preference in your booking yourself or through an agent &#8211; but make sure its done well in advance. Stay healthy!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>Update<\/strong><\/em>: My friends &#8211; Haynes &amp; Ankit &#8211; suggested that avoiding bread, and aircraft food in general will keep you even healthier.
