Prasad: I know quite a few avid writers in my friend circle who are lazy enough to run their own blog. I am going to keep the stage open at prasadgupte.com for sharing their wisdom, and to benefit them from provoked skill-set retrospection & motivation to start writing more. What’s a better start than to have one of the sweetest women in my life write on Women’s Day? Over to you Aru!

It’s the centennial anniversary of  International Women’s day and though it would be just another day down here, a lot of changed already and improving each year. The battle of sexes is never-ending, but women today are much more ambitious, open to challenges and reaching new heights.  And all this, thanks to the empowerment struggle by ‘us’ & the support extended by men; they are not so cruel after all, they just get insecure sometimes ;)

Although I don’t much happening in town, I’m expecting fun at the ‘Lavasa Women’s Day Drive’ on the eve of women’s day. With a long drive, live performances, makeovers & lots of goodies, it’s going to be one hell of an experience! I really wish I could join them, may be next year. As we struggle to create awareness by airing ‘Balika Vadhu’ as prime-time entertainment (fiction is thankfully better uglier reality prevalent in some parts of our society), the world elsewhere has seen several interesting initiatives celebrating women. I was particularly inspired by the following events:

  1. In Afghanistan, which is possibly happens to be among the most hostile places to be a woman, Afghan women dared to come out in thousands; wearing a blue scarf, they displayed their solidarity and appeal for peace with justice.
  2. Amnesty UK is focusing on violence against women; around 1 in 10 women in Britain experience rape or other violence. They created awareness by having netizens spread the word using Facebook & Twitter. This was a huge hit! And there’s some IT & Social media to keep Prasad happy.
  3. Irish women celebrated March 8th ’09 through a feminist walking tour of Dublin.

One thing is for sure, Lip service serves no purpose.

Sometimes I feel how could the world go on without women? Keeping aside making babies and rest of the feminist argument aside, who will Chambor and L’oreal serve? The world would have been so boring if there was no Marlyn Monroe, and so close to exhausted resources without Madam Curie. But then what makes so special are the million admirers of Marlyn’s beauty & Pierre Curie.

I feel Woman’s day should also be the day to thank the men who have stood by us – who believed in us and have been chivalrous enough to pamper. I would like to dedicate this day to the ever caring and loving men in my life. I have been really lucky to have met a few exceptionally sweet people in my life so far, and am thankful to them.

And here’s wishing Happy Women’s day to you all! And girls, being the fairer sex would also mean a lot of responsibility; so let’s take better care of our men :)
